We all know Demi Lovato. She started off as a character on Barney and really began her career on Camp Rock in 2009. Though Demi has become an idol for many youngsters, it’s not only because of her success, but for her hardships as we’ll.

As a child Demi Lovato was bullied a lot. Her peers were always making her feel bad and calling her fat. Growing up, Demi’s career was booming quickly. From being on Disney’s “Sonny with a Chance” to being on tour with the Jonas Brothers , Demi was put under a lot of pressure. She struggled with bulimia and alternately, restricting her eating severely. “Even when I did lose twenty pounds, when I turned twelve because I stopped eating, it was never enough”. It later graduated to self harm, Demi started to cut herself. “The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself”.

In 2013 she decided to enter Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Centre where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After being treated she joined “Love is Louder than the Pressure to be Perfect” movement, the Jed Foundation, and Seventeen Magazine. Demi came out with her most successful album, Unbroken, in 2012 where her hit song ‘Skyscraper’ was born. This song became popular and was an inspiration to young people who were struggling through similar issues. It later scaled to No.7 of most used songs at XFactor where Demi now works as a judge.

Demi Lovato seems to be having the Christmas spirit too. After all, she has joined 12 charities! These include City of Hope, A Day Made Better, and Red Cross. She even serves as an official ambassador for the Youth Empowerment event, We Day, and the organization Free the Children. Demi chooses to continue staying strong even after the death of her father , Patrick Lovato in June 23, 2013 at age 53. He too was going through abuse, alcohol abuse. Demi talks about it in her song “For the Love of a Daughter” also in Unbroken. With this loss she announces the Lovato Treatment Scholorship. A program that will cover expenses of treatment for one person who is struggling with mental health or addiction issues. This Christmas Demi will be selling clothes on eBay for charity, Free The Children. It is called Demi Lovato Charity Boutique. These clothes include items worn by her on T.V., music videos, etc. in addition, she will be be making charity Christmas cards.

Of course, let’s be realistic one doesn’t recover from abuse so easily. “I can’t tell you I haven’t thrown up or cut myself since rehab”, the star admits. But she shows her maturing, learning to make her own decisions, and becoming her own person. “I live my life  everyday, and if I feel like wearing combat boots one day and shoes the next I will” how is Demi now? Is she more satisfied with herself; with life it’s elf? What did she tell herself while overcoming these obstacles? “I allow myself a lot of freedom and I am very peaceful now. I have come to realize that just making yourself happy is important.” She says. “Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want and to do what moves you. Thats my life motto.”image
